Parish History

On January 18, 1999, a small group of people from Holly Lake Ranch met with Bishop Carmody at the diocesan office in Tyler, TX for the purpose of organizing a Catholic Church at Holly Lake Ranch. The proposal was met with much enthusiasm and The Holy Spirit Catholic Church was begun as a mission of St. Anthony Church in Longview. Jesuit Fr. Ben Smylie was appointed Priest-in-charge. Trammel Crow, a Dallas businessman, donated five acres of land for the construction of the new Catholic Church. The building was completed on January 12,2003. Fr. Ben celebrated mass at Holy Spirit until he died. After his death, Monsignor John FLyn served at the parish for a few months. Dcn. Sam Mullen and his wife Nancy also became apart of our parish. Soon the appointment of Fr. Ron Diegel was confirmed by the Bishop in 2005. He was with us for nine years until he was moved to Longview, Tx. Now we have Fr. Mike Snider to celebrate the Mass with us now.
