Parish History

On January 18, 1999, a small group from Holly Lake Ranch met with Bishop Carmody at the diocesan office in Tyler, Texas, to explore the formation of a Catholic Church at Holly Lake Ranch. The proposal was warmly received, and soon, Holy Spirit Catholic Church was established as a mission of St. Anthony Church in Longview. Jesuit Fr. Ben Smylie was appointed Priest-in-Charge. Dallas businessman Trammel Crow generously donated five acres of land for the construction of the new church, which was completed on January 12, 2003. Fr. Ben served and celebrated Mass at Holy Spirit until his passing. Following his death, Monsignor John Flynn served at the parish for a few months. Deacon Sam Mullen and his wife, Nancy, also joined our parish community.

In 2005, Fr. Ron Diegel was appointed by the Bishop, serving faithfully for nine years before being reassigned to Longview. We were then blessed to have Fr. Mike Snyder lead us in worship for the following nine years. In 2023, we welcomed Rev. Fr. Timothy Kelly as our new shepherd, guiding us in faith and community.

Now, in 2024, Fr. Ariel has joined us as Priest in Residence, bringing his unique gifts and dedication to our parish. We are grateful for his presence as he continues the rich tradition of pastoral care at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
